The Benefits of Cabinet Repainting or Refinishing

Are you tired of your drab and outdated looking kitchen or bathroom cabinets but can’t afford to purchase new ones? If there are no structural issues why not give them a facelift by refinishing or repainting your existing cabinets? Refinishing or repainting is a wonderful and cheaper alternative to revitalize your kitchen and/or bathroom cabinets!

Kitchen cabinets can be a major point of interest, so their look might make or break the overall appeal of the kitchen area. No-one wants to hang out in a kitchen with drab, outdated cabinets whereas we all love to congregate with our family and friends for meals and special occasions in a bright cheerful space. It is truly amazing what difference a bit of paint can do.

Many kitchen cabinet painters provide a limited selection of colors and finishes, whereas Universal Painting Contractors will assist you with your color selection and place no limit on color selection. We want you to have what you envision the most important room in the house to be.

The Advantages of Cabinet Painting

1. It will give your kitchen or bathroom a whole new look
2. It will improve your home’s value
3. It’s affordable and much less expensive than replacing your cabinets
4. It much faster and less of an inconvenience

Many homeowners are tempted to refinish or repaint their your own cabinets hoping that the result would be looking good enough. And of course, it can be done but unless you adhere to the correct process and know-how to apply semi-gloss paint, chances are they won’t.

With that said, here is Our Process

  • First, We Need to Prep

Before we can begin to work on the cabinets, all floors and other surfaces in the area will have to be cleared and covered with plastic, paper, and tarps. The cabinets will be dry, cleaned, and properly prepared to receive finish by scraping, sanding, caulking, and spackling.

  • Wash Cabinets
We hand wash all kitchen cabinets with TSP to make sure there is no grime, grease, and oils that could prevent the new paint to adhere.

  • Sand & Wood Repair
Now we sand all kitchen cabinets to eliminate any inconsistencies. If paint rather than stain is to be used we also apply wood grain filler so the grain is not visible through the paint coats. We then fill and repair any wood damage.

  • Shellac Primer
This is the step that most DIYers tend to omit. Always apply two coats of white pigmented shellac first if the cabinets are to be painted.

  • Sand
Again, we sand all kitchen cabinets with a higher grit sandpaper and caulk all joints for a really smooth finish.

  • Inslx Cabinet Coat
To achieve that perfect finish we apply two coats of Kelly-Moore Inslx Cabinet Coat semi-gloss paint to all cabinets.

  • Hardware
What would a face-lift be without new hardware such as handles, pull knobs, and soft close hinges.
